STAND UP TO ANDREWS

STANDING UP TO ANDREWS

IN MULGRAVE

Before I launched Civic Instigation -- the potent new concept in citizen activism — I'd made an assessment (based upon various polls, and the bookies’ odds of $1.06) that Andrews would retain his seat of Mulgrave.

That led me to encourage as many aggrieved Victorians as I could to channel their anger, frustration and disgust with Andrews’ countless malfeasances to stand up to him by standing against him in Mulgrave.

So I kicked off Civic Instigation by pledging to pay the $350 nomination fee for each of the ‘First Fifty’ Victorians to send their nomination forms to me.

Subsequently, I've been swamped with hundreds of nominations and generous offers of sponsorship to cover all the nomination fees. The level of opprobrium directed towards Andrews, and the desire to stand up to him, is quite staggering. Victorians are ropable.

During a frank discussion with Ian Cook at my home, I was struck with his quiet dignity and his total commitment to the cause of defeating Andrews in Mulgrave.

I’ve now concluded that Ian has a realistic chance of defeating Andrews, and that, by me not proceeding with the Civic Instigation challenge, Ian will have a clear run at slaying the dragon.

I wish to thank the thousands of Victorians who've contacted me, and I trust that they understand the decision I’ve made: it’s based upon what I’m now convinced is the best way to defeat Andrews in Mulgrave.
